We currently have the opportunity for an ITDS Solution Architect to join the Professional Services team in an ongoing role. Reporting to the ITDS Portfolio Delivery Manager, this hands-on role will be responsible for creating a standard for Solution Architecture that meet the needs of UTS College, in line with the Enterprise Architecture (EA) standards and the UTS College Digital Strategy.
About the Role
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture blueprint, encompassing applications, data, infrastructure, and security domains.
- Lead the evaluation and selection of technology solutions and vendors, ensuring alignment with business needs.
- Define standards, guidelines, and best practices for development and integration efforts across the organisation.
- Partner with business units to understand their requirements and translate them into architectural blueprints and roadmaps.
- Provide guidance and oversight to project teams during the design and implementation phases to ensure adherence to architectural principles.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing architecture and propose improvements or optimizations.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and maintain our competitive edge.
Solutions Architecture
- Leads the development of Solution Architectures in specific business, infrastructure, or functional areas.
- Ensures that appropriate tools and methods are available, understood and employed in architecture development.
- Within a change programme, leads the preparation of technical plans and, in liaison with business assurance and project staff, ensures that appropriate technical resources are made available.
- Provides advice on technical aspects of solution development and integration (including requests for changes, deviations from specifications, etc.) and ensures that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices (including security) are applied correctly.
Technology Sourcing
- Researches suppliers and markets, and maintains a broad understanding of the commercial environment, to inform and develop commercial strategies and sourcing plans for solutions under investigation.
- Advises on the business case for alternative sourcing models, and on policy and procedures covering the selection of suppliers, tendering, and procurement.
- Leads procurement teams, managing tender, evaluation, and acquisition processes.
- Negotiates with potential vendors/partners and suppliers, developing acceptance criteria and procedures.
Emerging Technology Monitoring
- Monitors the external environment to gather intelligence on emerging technologies.
- Assesses and documents the impacts, threats, and opportunities to the organisation.
- Creates reports and technology roadmaps and shares knowledge and insights with others.
- Explores potential innovations through prototyping and the development of proofs of concepts in collaboration with key technical teams.
About You
To succeed in this role our ideal candidate will have:
- Minimum 5 years’ operating in senior technical roles including solution design and delivery.
- Deep expertise in two or more of the following areas:
- Cloud Migrations.
- Network design and operation.
- Integrations.
- Identity and Access Management.
- IT Security.
- Teaching technologies.
- Working knowledge of ITIL processes and practices and understanding of PRINCE2 and agile project methodologies.
- Experience in the Higher Education Sector (desirable)
- Experience in vendor management and stakeholder management.
- Proven track record in developing and implementing a Solution Architecture practice along with utilising it to provide innovative solutions directly with customers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to translate technical terms into easily understandable language and develop architectural documentation.
- Sound financial skills (e.g. review of cloud consumption costs).
- Ability to coach and mentor other team members.
