Our Perth newsroom is looking for an experienced news reporter capable of covering breaking news fast, who can also generate original ideas for stories that will appeal to WAtoday’s audience.

The successful candidate will deliver clean, accurate copy to meet deadlines. They will cover topics including politics, Perth city life, business and more at the direction of the Editor.

Day to day you will:

• Write stories daily covering breaking news and more
• Attend and contribute to news conferences
• Pitch story ideas and conduct the research and interviews necessary

Please note, this position may require you to work 1 later shift during the week and possibly a weekend day.

This is a full-time fixed-term position until 13th September 2024.

We are looking for someone who can prepare clear, accurate, balanced, well-written and well-researched reports that conform to our style. You’ll have excellent news judgement and solid writing skills.

What we would like to see:

• Excellent news judgement and solid writing skills
• Previous experience in a newsroom
• A passion for breaking news and current affairs
• Digital production skills including writing headlines, photo selection and copy editing is a bonus
