At Hawthorn Consulting Engineers we are looking for our newest Forensic Engineer to join our well respected consulting firm based in Surrey Hills. Our work centres around the insurance industry and our engineering assessments vary greatly from cracking and movement buildings, damage due to insurable events such as earthquakes, fires and tree and vehicle impacts.
We are currently on the search to find the right candidate to carry out site inspections of residential, commercial and industrial properties and the writing of engineering reports and other documentation.

The position is open for graduate and junior engineers (1-3 years experience) to gain knowledge in forensic assessments and forensic report writing.
The role requires the successful candidate to travel around Melbourne and carry out site inspections of residential, commercial and industrial properties and the writing of engineering reports and other documentation.
The role offers a wide range of experiences in assessing damages to industrial, commercial and residential buildings, due to various causes such as footing movement, fires, vehicle and tree impacts. In some cases, damages are unknown and require practical and problem solving thinking that regularly challenges our engineer and constantly propels their engineering knowledge.
The role offices a balance of time on site and in the office with a collaborative team that work together to further each team members engineering knowledge.
The successful candidate must also have:
- Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Problem solving skills and the ability to apply engineering principles in a practical way.
- Ability to manage own time.
- Drivers licence and access to a vehicle for travel around Melbourne (all travel time will be reimbursed)
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain knowledge of Knowledge of relevant Building Regulations, Australian Standards, Guidelines and common building materials.
Training will be provided by our experienced engineers in an “on-the-job” manner, so the successful candidate will be hands-on from the start.
The position is a permanent, on-going, full time role.
Remuneration is dependent on engineering experience.
