We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Project Manager at the Perth CBD Office, on a Full-Time Permanent basis in Customer Connection Services (CCS).

CCS is a dynamic function that manages the end-to-end experience for any customer requiring a network connection or asset alteration to meet their personal or business requirements. A solutions-oriented function that delivers results through, design, scoping, scheduling, construction, and project management activities across many market segments. The CCS Function delivers customer outcomes structured into 5 key Areas as follows:

  • New Business and Works Management
  • Distribution Design
  • Distribution Delivery
  • Major Capital Connection Services - Projects & Programmes


About this role

As the Junior Project Manager, you will be accountable for the overall delivery of projects to agreed criteria, within commercially competitive standards for safety, cost, timeliness, quality, and scope and to the expectations of our customers and stakeholders.

The position will manage and deliver projects that are challenging but moderate in terms of complexity, visibility and reputational impact. You will be responsible for the project delivery of major customer projects (network connections and asset relocations) for works delivered externally:

  • network infrastructure to connect large scale renewable generation and batteries as part of the decarbonisation.
  • network infrastructure to connect major industrial loads, including mining, lithium and (future) hydrogen projects.
  • relocating existing assets to enable high profile infrastructure projects, including MetroNet, MRWA's major road and rail projects.
  • Electric Vehicle charger infrastructure programme.
  • LED Retrofit Programme for various LGA's as part of reducing the carbon footprint.
  • Infrastructure relocations for High-Wide-Loads for MRWA
  • Complex distribution projects & programme.

This position will manage and deliver projects of significant complexity, value, visibility and reputational impact to Western Power.

  • Delivering complex projects to the agreed scope, time and cost without compromising safety or quality.
  • Complex projects may include a high level of technological, reputational, safety or commercial risk representing a material impact on Western Power and its stakeholders.
  • Execute all projects according to Western Powers Project Methodology, Standards, Processes and Governance framework.
  • Ensure project financials are managed, maintained, forecasted and can be reported upon in terms of Capex and Opex.
  • Report the status of the assigned projects pro-actively and on an ongoing basis to key stakeholders and Team Leader, and co-ordinate and manage the work of the project team through up-to-date resource plans and project schedules.
  • Identify and actively manage project assumptions, risks, issues and dependencies associated with delivery ensuring appropriate mitigation strategies are established and actively managed.
  • Ensure project and quality assurance controls and gate checks are undertaken to minimise risk to delivery, costs and quality.
  • Conduct stakeholder analysis and establish effective stakeholder management plans.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is completed appropriately and satisfies NFIT requirements; and
  • Support and build effective project teams across diverse Functions of the enterprise to deliver required project and program outcomes.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to less experienced project management employees.
  • Champions change in alignment with business strategy and expectations of Western Powers stakeholders.


About you

We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:

  • Trade or Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering or Construction or at least 5 to 8 years demonstrable industry experience
  • Industry accreditation in project management, RegPM / PMI
  • In addition to having at least 3 to 4 years' demonstrated experience managing and delivering projects, a further 5 years extensive expertise in delivering complex programs / projects utilising industry standard project methodology such as PMBOK or Prince 2.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with project stakeholders and Senior leaders through superior communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated and the ability to manage time and prioritise effort
  • Interaction with others is primarily concerned with influencing, developing, motivating and changing behaviour
  • Extensive financial acumen including the ability to interpret financial data and reports. Utilise project knowledge to accurately budget and forecast expenditure and productivity
  • Highly developed negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • Valid WA Driver's License Class ‘C' or ‘C-A'
