The Junior WHS Officer at Newpave Asphalt will play a crucial role in supporting experienced Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) professionals. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in safety management tailored to the asphalt industry. The Junior WHS Officer will actively contribute to the implementation of safety protocols, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning and Development:
Participate in a structured learning program to gain a comprehensive understanding of WHS regulations, standards, and best practices specific to the asphalt industry.
Attend relevant training sessions, workshops, and industry conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in safety management.
Support WHS Initiatives:
Assist in the development, implementation, and review of safety policies, procedures, documentation, and programs tailored to the asphalt industry.
Collaborate with experienced WHS professionals to conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and regular safety audits at asphalt production facilities and construction sites.
Support the development and distribution of safety communications, including updating notice boards.
Review and maintain maintenance schedules.
Incident Response and Investigation:
Review safety reports on the company incident management platform, compile data, and report recurrences to the Safety Team.
Assist with site inspections and audits.
Assist in incident management involving incidents, hazards, or near misses and liaise with appropriate personnel to ensure corrective actions are completed in designated timeframes under the guidance of senior WHS personnel.
Safety Communication:
Assist in organizing and delivering safety training sessions for employees, emphasizing the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
Contribute to the development of safety awareness campaigns to promote a culture of safety excellence among employees.
Assist with company and client inductions and associated documentation.
Organize safety-related training for staff members and maintain accurate records.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare regular reports on key performance indicators related to safety metrics and compliance within the asphalt industry using the Lucidity WHS Software.
Monitor and manage safety equipment inventory, coordinating distribution and maintenance.
Manage data entry for integrated management systems and safety systems.
Assist in the maintenance of training needs analysis and related documentation.
Manage the company pre-employment and client-specific medicals.
Qualifications and Skills:
Currently enrolled in a relevant tertiary education program in Work Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Eagerness to learn and apply theoretical knowledge in practical real-world situations.
Basic understanding of WHS regulations and principles is desirable.
