About the opportunity
IFYS has an upcoming vacancy for a skilled and dedicated individual to join the Cairns Foster & Kinship care program in the Family Networker & Mediator/ Kinship Care Support worker role, in a 12-month maternity leave contract.
The Foster & Kinship Care program provides placements for children and young people (ranging from birth to 18 years), who have moderate to high support needs. As a Family Networker & Mediator, you will apply early intervention strategies responding to the needs of children and families, where there is engagement with the Child Protection system. The role has a strong focus on supporting Kinship arrangements and will provide mediation services to assist in the resolution of family relationship breakdowns.

Responsibilities of the role:
- Explore family and community relationships for a child or young person and prepare assessments and reports
- Support families and children to develop natural links and connections with their family and community
- Provide support to children and Kinship Carers, through therapeutic interventions relevant for their care plan
- Assist carers to create a home that is emotionally and physically safe, nurturing, appropriately engaging and stimulating which fosters growth and resilience
- Provide support and facilitate communications with Department of Child Safety in the event of critical event or standards of care issues
- Develop and deliver resources and training packages as required
- Develop functional links with community organisations, professional services, alternate care networks that provide support to children and families
- Timely and accurate completion of administrative and financial duties
- Take part in the on-call services
Requirements for the role:
- Professional experience working with children and families in a therapeutic environment
- Willingness to work flexible hours as required and occasional weekends
- Demonstrated knowledge of therapeutic, strengths based and client centred practice frameworks
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of family, connection and culture to children in the child protection system
- Contemporary knowledge of Child Protection legislation and related practice frameworks
- Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology or a related field
- Experience implementing family based interventions that have lead to improved outcomes for children and young people
Must hold or be willing to obtain if successful:
- Valid QLD driver's license with no restrictions
- QLD Working with Children Check (Paid Blue Card)
- Licensed Care Suitability Check (LCS2)
- National Crime Check (A new check will be completed through IFYS systems)
