Job description

Ruah is proud to be developing the Karlup Service, a holistic, wraparound recovery-based model aimed at supporting women and children to heal from family and domestic violence. The Karlup Service will provide a range of offerings from the Ruah Centre for Women and Children (RCWC), a state-of-the-art purpose-built facility in Perth’s CBD.

The Koorta Guide (Adult) and Learning Support Coordinator is a critical role within the Karlup Service and has two key areas of responsibility.

Koorta is a Noongar word which means “from the heart”. Koorta Guides are at the heart of the Karlup Service model and play a critical role in supporting women throughout their journey of healing and recovery by walking alongside them to gain a deeper understanding of their needs, work collaboratively to develop a plan for their future, and provide practical support to access internal offerings and navigate external support services.

Alongside Koorta Guide duties, this role is also responsible for ensuring consistently high levels of service and client care through the ongoing learning, training and development of Karlup Service staff. In collaboration with the Service Lead, the Learning Support Coordinator will identify, develop and deliver training and coaching to staff, contributing to the continuous improvement and overall effectiveness of the Karlup Service

What we’re looking for

The successful applicant will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Must be female.
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Community Services (or equivalent field) or a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar support role.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar learning and development role, including experience in the development and delivery of training.
  • Previous experience in working effectively with women who have experienced family and domestic violence and a sound understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and the social and cultural context in which it occurs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the requirements to deliver quality client care within the context of clients experiencing family and domestic violence.
  • Capability to work effectively with a trauma and culturally informed model of service delivery.

The following criteria are considered desirable:

  • Diploma or Degree level qualification in social sciences, social work, family studies, psychology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong communication, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Office and client reporting systems. 
  • Understanding of the complex issues facing women and children experiencing family and domestic violence and how the ongoing development of Karlup Service Staff is essential in ensuring quality client care and supporting client recovery.

Candidate Notice:

Ruah works with vulnerable clients in a range of health/hospital, public access, and client home locations. As a result, employees are required to have certain immunisations, including for COVID-19 even in the absence of public health orders. This is important for both client and staff health and safety controls.
