Team LeaderAboriginal Throughcare

Fulltime Contract until 30th June 2025

At Outcare, we are committed to providing outstanding services for people engaged or at risk of engaging with the justice system. Through our person-centred, throughcare approach, we support people to regain direction and maintain positive social engagement.

Our Aboriginal Throughcare (ATC) program comprises a comprehensive suite of supports for Aboriginal Men, Women and Youth involved, or at risk of involvement in the justice system. Case managers, Credible Messengers (Peers) and counsellors work in our Aboriginal Throughcare program, co-designing support plans with clients and remove barriers to successful engagement with community services. 

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced leader to steer our Aboriginal Throughcare program at Outcare. The Team Leader will work with a group of dynamic Case Managers, Peer support Workers and Counsellors to increase outcomes for clients inside the program. Displaying excellent leadership, the Team Leader will be responsible for the management of staff, budgetary expectations, and reporting mechanisms, as well as assisting staff in their work with diverse and often high needs clients. All members of this team must be resilient and be able to work without judgement with a group of clients with complex needs and experiencing mental health challenges, substance misuse, challenging behaviours, justice involvement, family and domestic violence and risk of homelessness.

This will involve the following:

• Managing a team of Case Managers, Credible Messengers (Peers) and Counsellors in accordance with legislative and funding requirements.

• Steers the planning and performance of the program staff and reporting on their performance against funding contracts and KPI's.

• Sets high work standards for self and team; demonstrates a high level of care and thoroughness; checks work of self and team to ensure quality service delivery.

• Effectively plan, schedule and direct caseloads of team members to ensure operational efficiency while working within multiple directives.

• Provide support services and guidance to Case Managers and support staff and clients for every phase of their journey.

• Maintain documentation, logs, reports and records of client interactions and services provided in appropriate files and database(s).

• Manage performance of team to ensure self and team have current skills, competencies, and compliances necessary for job role including induction and mentoring.

• Conducts regular 1:1 discussion with team members to identify, monitor and control psychosocial hazards in the workplace.

• Maintain professional boundaries and strictly adhere to the Outcare's Code of Conduct, policies, procedures, and instructions from senior management.

• Develop and maintain strong links and relationships with external agencies for the purpose of employment, referrals, and networking.

Key Experience and Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Team Leader or supervisor.

• Demonstrated contemporary understanding of reintegration practices and programs.

• Demonstrated experience in developing person-centered plans and conducting reviews.

• Clear understanding of working in a person-centered manner whilst being culturally appropriate.

• Experience in working successfully with people from diverse cultural, linguistic, and religious/spiritual backgrounds, low-socioeconomic and disadvantaged groups, and clients with a history of justice involvement.

• High-level written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills that can be used to engage a wide range of people, including our clients and their families, internal staff members, government agencies, and other stakeholders.

• Knowledge of financial reporting and budget management.

• Experience and confidence in delivering mentoring, coaching, and modelling of culturally sensitive practice to team members.

• Flexible and receptive to change with an ability to work adaptively in a complex and often stressful remote environment with multiple stakeholders.

• Cultural competency in working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander People.

• High-level proficiency in the use of technology including Microsoft Office - email, Word, and Excel.

Other Employment Requirements:

• A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Community Services, Criminology) or relevant experience working in similar roles.

• Mental Health First Aid Certificate.

• Working with Children Check.

• Current “C” Class  Western Australian Driver’s License

• Current First Aid (Or willingness to gain)
