Our client is a well respected and busy Geotechnical & Environmental Consultancy with several offices across the country, specialising in all areas of Investigation, Design, Testing and Professional Assessment for a large portfolio of clients nationwide.
We are currently seeking a dynamic and results-driven Laboratory Manager with a strong Business Development (BD) attitude to lead their Sydney laboratory. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in bringing in new clients, establishing connections with earthworks companies, and driving business growth, whilst leading a team of Geotechnical & Environmental field / lab engineers.
Key Responsibilities:
Business Development: Identify and pursue business opportunities, collaborating with Branch and Business Managers to identify potential income streams.
Leverage local market knowledge to introduce leads and contribute to the expansion of the client base.
Team Leadership: Supervise and manage laboratory staff, providing training and upskilling to technicians.
Lead the Quality requirements, ensuring adherence to NATA and ISO17025 standards.
Champion OH&S requirements, fostering a safety culture and compliance with accreditation standards.
Mentor and coach technical staff for professional development in laboratory management and testing skills.
Coordinate day-to-day operational requirements of the testing laboratory.
Oversee sampling, testing, and reporting in accordance with specifications, utilizing appropriate test methods.
Ensure timely resolution of CAPA's, including raising non-conformance reports and managing closure of outstanding actions.
Manage the preparation of test reports, invoice generation, and review all reports before client approval.
Compliance and Accreditations: Maintain appropriate accreditations, assisting with submissions and participating in external audits.
Oversee the management, maintenance, and calibration of all laboratory equipment.
Safeguard laboratory operations in line with organizational safe operating procedures.
Team Development: Ensure all Laboratory Staff undergo safety, quality, and technical training and inductions as required.
Provide leadership at all levels to foster a strong quality and safety culture.
Qualifications & Background:
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a Senior Laboratory Technician/Team Leader role.
NATA signatory approvals (level 5), with strong technical and commercial abilities (highly regarded).
Sound knowledge of Australian Standards for Soil and Aggregate Testing & Methods.
In-depth understanding of Laboratory Quality Standards and Systems.
Current driver’s license, Construction White Card, and Nuclear Density Meter operator's license.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop and support junior technicians.
Proven leadership skills, with a willingness to take a hands-on approach.
Strong team player with the capability to work autonomously.
Ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
Highly computer literate.
