About the role
A vacancy currently exists for a Laboratory Assistant to perform basic processing duties in our Molecular Department at our Murarrie Laboratory. This Permanent Full Time position (76hrs per fortnight) will be required to work various shifts between the hours of 06:00am - 01:06am, Monday to Friday plus rostered weekends and public holidays, and will join a friendly, professional team committed to patient care and scientific excellence. Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Routine receipting and processing of specimens
- Accessioning of specimens
- Pre and post analytical specimen handling
- Identification and prioritisation of urgent specimens
- Filing and storage of specimens
- Preparation of materials used for diagnostic tests
- Assist with quality control procedures
- Equipment maintenance and cleaning
- Stock control
- Manual handling and heavy lifting required
- Compliance and adherence with QML Pathology policies and procedures, and Workplace Health and Safety procedures
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:
- A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
- Must be a cohesive and contributing member of the team and display positive attitudes towards achieving outcomes
- Strong time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
- Attention to detail
- Problem solving skills
- Awareness of Workplace Health and Safety and quality assurance processes and procedures
- Previous laboratory experience and exposure to medical terminology would be desirable, but not essential
