Genomic Diagnostics is the national genomics laboratory for Healius Pathology. We provide comprehensive genomic testing spanning reproductive health, inherited disease, pharmacogenomics, oncology, and relationship testing, to an extensive network of public and private hospitals and community referrers across Australia. Our primary focus is to provide high-quality and timely genomic information to assist in diagnosis and clinical decision-making
About the Role
Based at the Genomic Diagnostics Laboratory in Heidelberg, we are seeking a Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic team in our specialised genetic testing department in a full-time capacity.
Reporting to the Specimen Reception Team Leader, your duties will include sorting, processing, and accessioning pathology specimens and data entry. Other tasks may include operating laboratory equipment for DNA extraction and non-invasive prenatal screening test setup, equipment maintenance and pipette calibration.
Key Responsibilities
- Data entry, sorting, processing, and accessioning of pathology specimens
- Packaging and sending of pathology specimens to referral laboratories, as per IATA requirements
- Perform designated tasks as outlined in methods and procedures, ensuring adherence to NPAAC/NATA ISO15189 requirements
- Participate in the rostered operation of laboratory equipment for DNA extraction (QiaSymphony and MagNa Pure) and non-invasive prenatal screening test setup (Hamilton
- Collaborate with the scientific team to support test analysis
- Perform equipment maintenance and pipette calibration as required
About you:
- Previous laboratory experience is desirable
- Qualification in laboratory techniques or pathology/general science-related field
- Knowledge and experience in laboratory robotics and operation of the QiaSymphony, MagNa Pure and Hamilton will be highly desirable
- Ability to work as part of a collaborative team with minimal supervision
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Demonstrate superior attention to detail and quality
- You will thrive in a busy environment and can work in a fast-paced, multi-skilled laboratory
