In summary, the Laboratory Technical Assistant is responsible for:
- Assisting the Senior Laboratory Technician in the efficient operation of the winery laboratory
- Daily duties include routine analyses and managing analysis requests from winemakers
- If required, act as back up to senior technician in laboratory consumable ordering and organisation of laboratory
- Equipment calibration and troubleshooting
- Training of vintage or laboratory new staff
- Shift work required during vintage.
- Sampling and conducting a variety of different laboratory tests – some of these include: Grape maturity analysis; sugars; sulphurs; volatile acidity; pH and total acidity; Dissolved oxygen (DO); carbon dioxide and alcohol and Fermentation sample collection and analysis
To be successful in for these roles you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:
- Minimum 1-2 Years’ experience in Laboratory Environment
- Familiarity with current laboratory technologies and equipment
- Experience in a customer service driven environment
- Intermediate computer skills with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
- Ability to take initiative in interpreting analytical results and flag problems or potential quality concerns
- Time management skills – the ability to meet deadlines and operate oneself in an efficient manner
- The ability to self-manage and work autonomously and work in collaboration with a team
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques
- Qualification in chemistry, food science or related discipline
- Degree in Chemistry or Food Sciences
- Problem-solving abilities that reflect a positive and consultative approach
- Experience in the Wine Industry or Food / Beverage or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Industries
