The Opportunity
Due to continued success and growth, HRL is seeking a qualified candidate as a Laboratory Manager for the opportunity to lead our Mulgrave Analytical Services Team. As the Mulgrave Laboratory Manager, you will support the day to day operations including activities associated with OHSE and Quality, support the solving of complex chemistry issues as well as assist the Business Unit Leader - Analytical Services. Our team members are adept to partnering with businesses to drive innovation, sustainability, performance, and efficiency. Your expertise and passion for science and an inclusive workplace culture and strong interpersonal skills will be instrumental in shaping the HRL laboratory business and the future of industries that impact our daily lives.
We are seeking applications for our Mulgrave, VIC head office location.
Key Responsibilities:
As the Laboratory Manager, you will work within the Laboratory and Testing Services division which delivers a suite of services in the field of laboratory services, including, but not limited to:
- Financial management including understanding P&L, forecasting, capex preparation etc.
- Workforce planning and people management, including hiring, KPI setting, performance reviews and employee development.
- Supporting strategic planning and future direction of the team.
- Support the sales and marketing of the various products and services within the team.
- Liaising with customers to understand and scope work requirements.
- Overseeing delivery, preparing, and presenting reports to clients as required.
- Manage your own time and workloads to support the wider division’s objectives, whilst guiding and supporting the labs and business-as-usual
- Leading by example in developing and maintaining a collaborative culture within the division and overall business with your strong interpersonal skills and keen interest in developing a great workplace culture
- Support the maintenance of OHSE systems.
- Support the maintenance of the Quality systems which cover ISO9001 and ISO17025.
- Provide technical leadership to complex chemistry problems and supporting the teams with technical advice.
About you
You will be:
- An experienced leader, with ideally 10+ years of direct leadership experience in a laboratory (NATA) environment,
- Committed to safe work practices,
- Energetic and flexible in your approach
- An excellent communicator, and a Chemist with instrumental experience,
- Knowledge in OHSE systems and Quality system.
- Possess a Chemistry degree, or relevant qualifications in science and/or related areas of expertise.
You will also have:
- An energetic and flexible approach, and ideally a self-proclaimed ‘people’s person’
- Previous experience of 10+ years in leading successful teams, sharing knowledge and information
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken
- A sound knowledge of the Microsoft Suite
- A valid Australian Driver's Licence
- Current legal working rights in Australia
- Ability to work within a specific team and co-ordinate collaboration across teams to achieve common goals and outcomes for customers
- Technical problem-solving capabilities
- Strong interpersonal skills, with an affinity to drive talent and support a good business culture
