  • Develop and maintain awareness of the capacity, capability, and operation of all other LA-ICPMS facilities in CODES Analytical Laboratories.
  • Assist the Manager with overseeing the maintenance, repair, and replacement scheduling for all laboratory equipment.
  • Provide expert technical advice and leadership to internal users on the application of the instrumentation to geological problems and on data processing.
  • Train staff and research students on the operation of the equipment.

What we’re looking for:

  • A Ph.D. in Geology, Geochemistry, or related discipline or relevant equivalent experience, with extensive experience in the geochemical analysis of rocks and/or minerals.
  • Experience in independently operating and maintaining LA-ICPMS analytical equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience in, or capability to participate in, LA-ICPMS analytical method developments.
  • Proven experience with data reduction procedures for LA-ICPMS analytical data, including U-Pb geochronology, sulphide and/or silicate mineral analyses.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team and to supervise other team members.
  • Experience with training and supervising lab users and devising analytical plans for external partners and collaborators.

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $143,448 comprising base salary within the range of $107,829 to $122,605 plus 17% superannuation. Relocation could be considered for the ideal applicant.
