The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Laboratory Supervisor and/or Senior Laboratory Technician who is ready to take the next step in their career, to join our QLD team based at our Yatala depot on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Technical Manager, this role is responsible for the supervision of the lab and all testing activities.
Working in a small team you will need to be proactive and flexible with working hours. Shift work and living away from home will be required at times.
Key responsibilities for this position include:
- Supervision of the laboratory technicians and operations to ensure compliance with NATA accreditation
- Successfully formulating, communicating, and implementing sound strategies and plans in relation to technical services and production.
- Review laboratory operations, develop and implement strategies to improve the operation, safety, quality, environmental and financial performance of the laboratory and laboratory services.
- Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated and maintained in suitable working order
- Preparation of reports and assessments
- Ensuring the safe operation of equipment
- Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Other duties as required
The Ideal Candidate will possess the following essential skills and experience:
- A Diploma in Laboratory techniques or be willing to undertake
- Previous supervisor experience and a proactive mindset to drive productivity in the laboratory and its testing staff
- Knowledge of performance-based asphalt testing and mix designs
- Knowledge of bitumen grades and polymer modified binders for Asphalt and Spray Seal
- Knowledge of raw constituent materials and source aggregate testing
- Knowledge of asphalt plant production and field compaction placement procedures
- Experience in laboratory testing techniques and procedures relevant to aggregates, asphalt, bitumen fillers and asphalt performance testing
- Knowledge of laboratory set up and calibration requirements
- Methodical and good record keeping skills
- Experience with chemicals
- Demonstrated commitment to safety
- Ability to work different shift patterns & weekends as required
