Date Printed: 6/6/2018 2:05:00 PM Version : 1.0 Position Title: Labourer - Beach Protection (L3 - Band 2C) Position Objective To provide a broad range of vegetation management and general labouring maintenance tasks on beaches, foreshores and natural areas supervised by the Leading Hand. Attend to scheduled development and maintenance activities and contribute to the completion of work tasks generated by Council, residents and external clients. Key Responsibilities Shall include, but not be limited to: 1. Assist with vegetation management and general labouring maintenance duties on a scheduled or as directed basis on beaches, foreshores and natural areas, including weed control (herbicide application, woody weed control, hand-weeding etc), brush-cutting, tree planting, fencing, minor construction projects, erosion control, nursery work and seed collection. 2. Assist with the general upkeep of vehicles and other machinery used by the work team. 3. Assist in the completion of all paperwork associated with the position in a tidy and timely manner. 4. Other responsibilities as delegated by Management within the scope of this position. Position Requirements: Qualifications and Experience Essential • Current QLD Manual Car 'C' Class Open Driver's Licence • Current General Construction Safety 'White' Card • Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Certificate (ACDC Ticket) • Chainsaw Level I • Experience in general building maintenance and/or construction • Experience in weed control and vegetation restoration Desirable • Chainsaw Level II • Qualifications in Bush Regeneration, Natural Resource Management or equivalent Skills Essential Date Printed: 6/6/2018 2:05:00 PM Version : 1.0 • Positive and professional attitude with an enthusiastic approach to work and an ability to be flexible and adaptable in the work place • Good communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of clients including community, friends, labour market, school and volunteer groups on a daily basis • Ability to work and participate in a small team-oriented work environment and work unsupervised when required • Ability to communicate with staff and supervisors and follow verbal and written communication when required • Skills in vegetation management and habitat restoration practices relating beaches, foreshores and natural areas • Basic carpentry skills • Ability to competently use hand and power tools and machinery appropriate to the position • Time management skills. • Ability to undertake physical work in a variety of outdoor environments. Knowledge Essential • Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of small plant and equipment and their use in construction tasks • Knowledge of and experience with basic construction techniques such as fencing • Understanding of basic vegetation management and habitat restoration techniques such as revegetation and weed control • A demonstrated ability to read, write and perform basic numerical calculations to a standard appropriate to the requirements of the position. Desirable • Understanding of Council's Enterprise Risk Management Policy and Framework objectives as they impact the position. Being familiar with the location of first aid treatment centres, fire protection facilities and evacuation procedures. 10.
