About the team and the role
We have an opportunity for an experienced Lawyer or Senior Associate to join our Banking & Financial Services section to practice in funds management and Financial Services.
Our national Banking & Financial Services section has approximately 44 team members and this role will work closely with a number of highly-regarded Partners and lawyers across the practice.
Our team has expertise in advising on investment and property funds, Financial Services compliance, regulation and licensing, financial product distribution, anti-money laundering, crowdfunding, non-cash payments, responding to ASIC surveillance, and superannuation. Our HW Funds team is Australia’s leading investment funds advisory team.
This role is being offered as a 6 month fixed-term contract (parental leave cover), to be based in Melbourne or Sydney.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- assisting with the establishment and operation of funds and fund-related transactions across all asset classes, including fund restructures, mergers and closures;
- advising on Australian Financial Services licensing and regulatory requirements, including assisting with licensing applications, variations and general compliance obligations;
- preparing and reviewing disclosure documents including product disclosure statements and information memoranda, advertising material, investor statements and reports;
- undertaking due diligence processes in respect of proposed transactions and disclosure documents; and
- reviewing fund-related commercial agreements and advising on arrangements with service providers.
- participating in marketing and business development (including assisting in seminars and other presentations);
- precedents preparation and review;
- authoring articles for publication;
- adherence to the firm’s file management policies; and
- participation in team and section meetings and CPD activities.
We would like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
- between 4 - 8 years of post-admission experience in Financial Services law, including experience within private practice;
- enthusiasm for the Financial Services sector;
- an interest in using innovation to develop the practice;
- excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with keen attention to detail;
- outstanding verbal and written communication skills;
- a strong commitment to client service and the ability to manage client relationships;
- a focus on achieving commercial solutions for our clients;
- a willingness and ability to mentor and supervise junior members of the team; and
- the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.
