About the teamWe have multiple opportunities for experienced Lawyers to join our thriving national General Insurance practice, working with a highly regarded team.Our national General Insurance practice has over 200 team members, and advises on and manages litigated claims for a number of major insurers, reinsurers and corporates, and on behalf of significant clients in a wide variety of industries. We sit on the legal panels of three of Australia’s top four general insurers, as well as a number of other local and international insurers.
About the roleThe primary focus of this role will be property/construction insurance including high-quantum property recoveries, as well as first-party insurance/indemnity disputes, property damage defence claims and general insurance matters.You will be responsible for and have carriage of your own files, with appropriate supervision from our supportive and industry leading partners.
Your responsibilities will include:- reviewing documents and preparing evidence;
- drafting correspondence to the Court and third parties;
- conferencing with witnesses and preparing witness statements;
- preparing briefs for counsel;
- drafting Court documents and attendance at Court;
- drafting client advices; and
- drafting letters of instruction to experts.
Skills and experienceWe would like to hear from you if you have the following skills and experience:
- between 2 and 4 years of post-admission experience in general insurance law;
- experience in property/construction recoveries, liability defence acting on behalf of insurers;
- experience in the day-to-day management of files and in running matters through court proceedings;
- a team player, with a ‘can do’ attitude, and a strong interest in defendant insurance law;
- excellent technical, analytical and drafting skills with a keen attention to detail;
- excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
- the ability to organise and prioritise effectively.
