Role
The Mathematics Domain Leader key role is to work closely with staff to provide a broad, coherent, differentiated and innovative curriculum that challenges all students in thinking and learning. They lead their teams of teachers to ensure staff in their domain are engaged in the ongoing development of highly effective pedagogy and curriculum compliant with the guidelines from VCAA.
The Mathematics Domain Leader has delegated responsibility for the overseeing and developing of the domain academic program as a reflection of the College academic program.
The Mathematics Domain Leader gives expression to the College¿s values and vision by leading the development and implementation of a student centred, intellectually challenging and wide ranging curriculum within their domain.
The Mathematics Domain Leader supports the Assistant Principal Learning and Teaching and the College Leading Teacher VCE/Vic Curriculum in the development and implementation of teaching and learning so that it is responsive to the academic, vocational and personal development needs of students.
The Mathematics Domain Leader supports domain staff in the development of a learning environment so that students can reach their full academic potential and be supported and challenged.
The Mathematics Domain Leader supports the College Leading Teacher VCE/Vic Curriculum to develop structures and processes to monitor the development of pedagogy in domains, monitor student progress and encourage ongoing effectiveness in the achievement of academic excellence.
The Mathematics Domain Leader is responsible and accountable to the College Principal and the Assistant Principal Learning and Teaching.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
College Teaching & Learning
Provide active leadership throughout the school community in support of College¿s Vision and Values, Policies and Strategic Directions
Contribute to high level planning as an active member of the College Leadership Team
Lead the planning, implementation and review of curriculum and teaching and learning within the Mathematics Domain, according to VCAA (VCE & Vic Curric)
Oversee the continual development of the Mathematic Domain's guaranteed and viable curriculum
Ensure that all relevant student learning elements of the College¿s Strategic Plan, Annual Implementation Plan
Undertake specific tasks associated with this role to ensure faculty members:
Deliver curriculum in accordance with the intent and purpose of the syllabus for that subject and Group
Deliver curriculum on schedule
Deliver common assessment tasks and are monitored for appropriate range, rigour and consistency, through a moderation process
Conduct regular assessments as set out in the course and assessment outline
Publish students results online regularly and when scheduled
Provide students with timely and appropriate feedback in relation to their academic performance
Provide lesson plans and resources for students online for each class
Complete reports, both interim and end of semester on time and are an accurate indicator and summary of student performance, attitude and behaviour
Conduct regular domain meetings and ensure:
The TSC agenda template is used
Meetings are organised
A focus on collaboration
Information is distributed to members in a timely manner
Minutes and attendance at the meeting are taken and published to the online platform
All required materials (including Student Reports) are collected from teachers who are going on leave, prior to their departure
Ensure that feedback is received from staff who attend Professional Development activities, that this information is presented by that staff member to the Domain and that implementation is followed up
Ensure work is provided for classes left by a teacher who is absent
Oversee the development and maintenance of classroom displays that are appropriate to create an interesting and motivating learning environment
Manage the Mathematics Domain budget
Be responsible for OH&S aspects in relation to the Mathematics Domain to maintain a safe learning environment for staff and students
Plan, implement and review the moderation of student work within the Mathematics Domain
Provide regular communication and advice to the members of the Principal Team and the College Leading Teacher VCE/Vic Curriculum
Undertake other duties as directed by the Principal
General Responsibilities:
Contribute to the overall leadership and management of the school and support a whole school focus on improving student learning outcomes.
Demonstrate an active commitment to the College Leadership Teams and possess a strong commitment to personal leadership growth.
Model use of the College Teaching & Learning Model (TLM), Student Engagement Model (SEM) and School Wide Positive Behaviour Support framework (SWPBS) and support other staff to build their capacity in the use of these.
Facilitate and lead a Professional Learning Team (PLT) with a focus on improving teacher capacity.
Promote and embed the Child Safe Standards and comply with other Departmental policy and requirements.
Who May Apply
Teachers currently registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching and qualified to teach and/or have demonstrated experience in the curriculum area(s) specified for the position.

Other Information
Whilst a major duty of a Leading Teacher is to perform the tasks as outlined in the position descriptions, they will also be expected to provide leadership across the school beyond that position. What differentiates a Leading Teacher role from a Special Payment role is the leadership responsibilities required as outlined in the Roles and Responsibilities section of the current School Agreement (see below).
“Leading teachers will be highly skilled classroom practitioners and undertake leadership and management roles commensurate with their salary range. The role of Leading Teachers is to improve the skill, knowledge and performance of the teaching workforce in a school or group of schools and to improve the curriculum program of a school. Typically, Leading Teachers are responsible for coordinating a number of staff to achieve improvements in teaching and learning which may involve the coordination and professional support of colleagues through modelling, collaborating and coaching and using processes that develop knowledge, practice and professional engagement in others.
Leading teachers are expected to lead and manage a significant area or function within the school with a high degree of independence to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school’s education program. Leading teachers will be expected to make a significant contribution to policy development relating to teaching and learning in the school. A Leading Teacher has a direct impact and influence on the achievement of the school goals.
Leading teachers are usually responsible for the implementation of one or more priorities contained in the school strategic plan.”
Leading Teachers will be expected to represent the college at functions such as the College Information Evenings, Awards Nights, Drama Productions, etc. As significant members of the leadership team, they are expected to publicly support and promote the college and the educational programs at every opportunity.
Tarneit Senior College expects all Leading Teachers/Learning Specialist to accept college wide responsibility for Staff Wellbeing, Student Management and Engagement, Teacher Effectiveness, Student Learning and community perceptions. As such all Leading Teachers/learning Specialists play an integral part within the college Leadership Team which includes the Principal Class Team.
Leading Teachers/Learning Specialists will develop a two-three year Implementation Plan and it is expected that the plan will allow scope for the Leading Teacher/Learning Specialist to clearly demonstrate their ability to meet the Professional Standards as outlined.
Leading Teachers/Learning Specialists will also be required to prepare an annual report for the Principal to be tabled at School Council. This report will outline the achievements within the specific role and leadership tasks undertaken and will be used to help prepare the School Annual Report.

VIT LANTITE
To be eligible for employment, transfer or promotion in the principal or teacher class a person must have provisional or full registration from the Victorian Institute of Teaching. In addition, from 3 August 2020, to be eligible for employment in the principal class or teacher class, a person who graduated from a Victorian Initial Teacher Education program after 1 July 2016, must demonstrate that they have passed the literacy and numeracy test for initial teacher education (LANTITE) requirements. This condition is satisfied where the LANTITE requirement is part of the Victorian Initial Teacher Education program completed by the person.
For positions in special settings, a person is not eligible for employment unless they meet the vaccination requirements on commencement in the position.
