About us

Delve into the heart of community development with the Jordan River Service. We are a proud member of the Neighbourhood Houses Tasmania network and have been serving the Bridgewater-Gagebrook-Herdsman's Cove and wider Brighton community for over 40 years. Our not-for-profit organisation includes two bustling community houses as well as a community food pantry and a community workshed.

As our “Top Gear” Learner Driver Mentor Program Coordinator, you'll not only support our community members to life skills and freedom but will also contribute to our mission of building a connected, inclusive and resilient community. 

About the role

The Top Gear Program Coordinator supports individuals in the Brighton LGA, especially in the Bridgewater-Gagebrook-Herdsman’s Cove area, who face challenges in obtaining their driving licence. The Coordinator connects participants with volunteer mentor drivers to help them complete up to 80 hours of supervised driving needed for a provisional licence. Working 15 hours per week, the Coordinator manages the program within available resources. Additionally, they are part of the Community House and Jordan River Service teams, participating in community activities and upholding our values of Respect, Integrity and Justice.

Qualifications, skills & experience

  • A post-secondary qualification in Community Services or another relevant field, or equivalent applicable industry experience.
  • Strong administration skills – time management, task prioritisation, data collection and recording, internal and external reporting, case noting and general documentation.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation and influencing ability – able to relate to a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • The ability to form partnerships and connections with other professionals and organisations.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage time effectively in a busy environment with competing priorities, whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
  • A sound level of computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office packages and client case management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to role-model an appropriate level of professional self-awareness and positive workplace behaviours.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and respect privacy and confidentiality, demonstrating a high level of personal integrity and honesty.
  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a team to meet target outputs.

Tasks & responsibilities

Learner and Mentor Management:

Manage Learner referral process, recruit, screen, induct, and support volunteer Mentors, and match them with Learners.

Communication and Support:

Communicate regularly with Learners and Mentors, organise meetings, and address any issues promptly to maintain a collaborative program ethos.

Stakeholder and Relationship Management:

Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders and colleagues, promoting social justice and equity.

Administrative Duties:

Complete data entry, maintain records, compile reports, ensure timely paperwork, and seek relevant grants and funding.

Vehicle and Incident Management:

Coordinate car bookings, ensure vehicle maintenance, report and manage any vehicle damage or incidents, and ensure compliance with all requirements.

Community and Compliance:

Participate in Jordan River Service activities, ensure compliance with policies and legal requirements, manage risks, and promote continuous improvement and a welcoming community space.

The fine print…

Essential Requirements:

  • Current valid Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People clearance.
  • National Police Check issued by Tasmania Police (less than 12 months old).
  • Must be eligible to work in Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian driver's licence.

Desirable:

  • COVID vaccination and a minimum of two boosters.
  • Experience in a similar not-for-profit operating environment.
