Learning Designer

Ideal candidate:

The ability to write succinctly to a high level and provide great customer service are the key attributes we are looking for. In addition to experienced Learning Designers, those with transferrable skills will be seriously considered, such as content writers/copywriters, marketers, teachers, and others with strong communication skills looking to join the e-learning industry.

Job Purpose: 

The role is in the Learning Content team, which specialises in designing and delivering eLearning. The Learning Designer will be responsible for: 

  • Working with client to design learning solutions for their specific need.
  • Scripting and editing content. 
  • Briefing and collaborating with other skillsets to build digital training products.   
  • Ensuring projects meet quality standards and are delivered on time and to the agreed budgets. 
  • Working on a range of project types as appropriate e.g. consultancy, training needs analysis, blended learning, videos, further resources, etc. 
  • Being a client-facing contact person representing the team.
  • Meeting Kineo values in terms of creativity and innovation, customer service, quality and commercial awareness in all aspects of the role.  

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities: 

 Design and Quality 

  • Understanding clients’ business, performance, and training requirements 
  • Ensuring training is designed in line with all agreed objectives, style guides and the agreed treatment and scope 
  • Briefing and collaborating with other members of the global production team 
  • Reviewing releases and integrating client feedback 
  • Flagging risks (and if possible, proposing possible mitigations) 
  • Adhere to all quality processes and ensure compliance with ISO quality standards 

 Customer Service 

  • Maintaining a professional attitude in all communications with external and internal customers 
  • Working with the client to seek clarification of feedback, advise on any concerns, provide appropriate support and guidance as needed
  • Facilitating and leading meetings related to the design approach, e.g. design workshop, content workshop etc.
  • Advocating the design approach, outlining how it meets the client requirements, is suitable for the timescales and budget allocated and meets the learning objectives in its approach

Commercial Awareness

  • Working with the team to ensure projects remain in scope, on budget and deadlines are achieved  
  • Working to the allocated number of days for a given task, proactively flagging any associated risks  

 Quality and Innovation

  • Be an active member of the Learning Designers Community 
  • Adhere to agreed quality processes and ISO quality standards, ensuring briefings and reviews for projects take place, assets are managed
  • Stay up-to-date with creative and technological developments and techniques  

 Person Specification: 

 Experience, Skills and Abilities  

  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with proven ability to write a range of technical, instructional and educational materials in different contexts, in a range of tones and styles 
  • Strong analytical skills, ability to review large volumes of information and make informed decisions about priorities and design approaches 
  • Strong communication skills: capable of explaining rationale of decisions and building rapport and trust with clients, communicating progress and updates to clients and to colleagues, communicating design aspects and requirements to graphic designers and technical team members
  • Competent with a range of Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint & Word), and comfortable learning new packages such as authoring tools 
  • Commercial awareness and understanding commercial impact of decisions
  • Enthusiastic, flexible and comfortable working at a fast pace on multiple projects 
  • Able to engage and communicate with clients, manage expectations, and express ideas and think persuasively and clearly  

Career Pathway:

The Learning Designer works from start to end on the design, writing and production of elearning modules. This role can logically move into being accountable for the design of bigger, more complex projects or programmes of work. The Learning designer might also move into other disciplines in elearning such as project management or development, or into areas beyond elearning such as sales/bid support, or marketing.

We are a Global Company, and although your contract will stipulate working hours, business is often conducted outside these hours. Thus, out-of-hours availability is required. An Adelaide office is also available for in-office or hybrid working.
