About the role
Our Learning Designer role is one like no other. At Young Guns, we already have an established learning culture. Our team of self-starters are hungry for development and our leaders are driven to be great teachers as well as great coaches.
We are looking for someone who shares our passion for developing others – a person who can use their knowledge, experience and creativity to craft learning programs, materials, resources and tools that engage, inspire and support our unique Young Guns community.
In this role, you will work with our Head of Learning & Development and Manager of Leadership Development to help build capability across Young Guns through creation of great learning content and experiences.
Key responsibilities
- Analysing the training needs and requirements of stakeholders and translating these into the most appropriate learning solutions for our target audience.
- End-to-end design, development, implementation and evaluation of engaging and effective learning programs, materials, resources and tools, including:
- o Leadership development programs
- o Technical skills programs
- o Compliance training programs
- o Role based learning pathways
- o Competency based assessment tools
- o Knowledge assessment tools
- o Facilitator led programs (In-person and Virtual)
- o eLearning courses
- o Self-paced learning resources
- o Audio visual learning resources
- Development of accessible training materials and resources that support the diverse LLN needs of learners and meet current industry accessibility guidelines (e.g.: WCAG)
- Evaluating the effectiveness of training and its impact on key business measures: capability, engagement, culture, safety, operational performance, customer satisfaction)
- Building and managing stakeholder relationships and negotiating win/win outcomes.

Essential attributes
- Extensive experience assessing training needs and translating these into effective learning solutions.
- Deep understanding of contemporary adult learning principles and methodologies and significant experience putting learning design and development models, theories & frameworks into practice.
- System and Platform Experience: Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of Articulate 360 (Rise and Storyline), Microsoft Suite (Word/ PowerPoint/ SharePoint/ Teams), Creative Design Tools (Canva and InDesign), Video Editing Tools (Clipchamp and Adobe Premiere Pro)
- Innovation and Design Thinking: is able to apply creative and visual design skills across Training content development; Competency mapping; and Video, audio and online content design, creation and production.
- Communicates and connects: is able to connect with people and communicate effectively using high level written and verbal communication skills; and consult with stakeholders to understand their needs and influence thinking to achieve win/win outcomes.
- Logical and planned: takes a structured approach to work and can apply project management principles and methods to accurately scoping work, monitoring progress and achieving key milestones and deliverables.
- Achievement focussed: is able to develop and deliver learning solutions with speed and efficiency while maintaining high standards and quality.
Desirable attributes
- Experience applying innovative learning practices including: use of AI tools in the development of learning materials, gamification of learning and the creation of animated learning content.
- Understanding of indigenous learning principles and concepts, and accessible learning design principles.
- Understanding of leadership practices, models and frameworks relating to supervision, setting expectations, giving and receiving feedback, coaching, change management, performance management, communication skills, conflict management.
- Understanding of operational practices, models and frameworks relating to work health & safety, productivity, workforce planning, project management, diversity and inclusion, etc.
- Experience in a leadership role focussed on coaching and developing others.
- Experience facilitating learning programs and workshops
- Understanding of Transport, Logistics and Warehouse operations, industry core processes and procedures, terminology, equipment.
