Job description

The School of Humanities and Languages is seeking a Lecturer (Level B to join its Environment and Society Group.In this position you will drive original research and innovative projects.You will also contribute to the Environment and Society Group's teaching programs, which includes undergraduate majors in International Studies, Geographical Studies, Environmental Humanities, as well as a Master of Environmental Management degree program.The role of Lecturer reports to and has no direct reports.AccountabilitiesSpecific accountabilities for this role include (but are not limited to):

  • Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in fields of international political geography, International Studies, and Environmental Studies.
  • Deliver core teaching modules as part of the Environment and Society group with particular specialisations in International Studies, international political geography and Environmental Studies. Provide career and study guidance for International Studies students.
  • Conduct classes, assess student learning and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
  • Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
  • Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
  • Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and employability outcomes for students.
Skills and ExperienceSkills and experience required for this position are (but not limited to):
  • A PhD in human geography/political geography, international studies or a cognate discipline.
  • Experience working with a diversity of international organisations; experience with international environmental projects and NGOs is desirable.
  • Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments, particularly in fields of international studies, human geography and Environmental Studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.
  • Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
