Job description:
ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is focused on ensuring that all operations of the AFL and AFL's State affiliates are conducted within the limits prescribed by law and that the AFL's rights are fully protected through Legal Counsel and guidance.
This role requires the provision of legal expertise towards commercial decision making and ensuring all operations of the AFL are conducted within acceptable parameters.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF
Key Accountabilities:
- Provide legal advice and support in respect of matters relating to football operations, integrity and game development activities of elite and state and community football
- Draft and review rules, regulations, policies and guidelines relevant to competition management and integrity
- Assist in the preparation of various policies and procedures across the organisation
- Monitor changes in legislation and advise the business on any potential impacts of changes on the operation of the organisation
- Provide corporate governance advice to the business
- Assist with the preparation of documents for general meetings, director appointments, director retirements and other corporate governance documents
- Draft and review agreements and amendments/variations as required
- Advise on the operation of the Commercial Operations Guidelines across AFL and AFLW
- Advise on the operation of the AFL and AFLW Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Dispute resolution support as required
- Review membership and ticketing terms and conditions as required
- Advise on data, privacy and consumer law matters
OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER
Core Competencies:
- Bachelor of Laws
- Admitted as a Legal Practitioner in Victoria
- Victorian Practising certificate
- 3+ years' post admission experience in a commercial law firm or in an in-house role
- Keen interest in Australian Football
- Understanding of AFL or other relevant sporting environment
- Experience in any of the areas of corporate law, privacy law, media law, construction law, corporate governance employment law will be favourably considered.
- Experience in working in a fast paced environment
