The Opportunity
We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Legal Counsel, Strategic Projects, HSEH & Approvals to join our Legal and Governance team at the Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne or Perth office on a full-time basis.
Reporting to the Group Counsel Strategic Projects HSEH and Approvals, the Legal Counsel will support the design and delivery of legal advice and services in relation to native title, cultural heritage, safety and project access arrangements at APA Group, to ensure the efficient management of APA’s legal risk in these areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advice and assistance in relation to the negotiation of native title, cultural heritage and other agreements as well as in relation to relevant proceedings and development projects
- Provide legal advice in relation to operational safety matters, including incident investigations
- Assist APA generally in relation to projects, in particular land access and approvals
- Design and implement initiatives to drive efficiency in APA’s management of health, safety and heritage matters and legal operations
- Input into cross functional teams, such as the modern slavery working group and sustainability working group
Your background
- Admitted to practice as a legal practitioner in Australia with proven experience and holding a current practising certificate
- Proven experience post admission, that has been gained through law firm and/or in-house experience with demonstrated subject matter expertise in native title, cultural heritage, safety and preferably land access
- Proven ability to work within tight deadlines, independently and with minimal supervision
- Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building skills, with an ability to work with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders as a ‘trusted advisor’
- Senior Legal Counsel are also encouraged to apply
