The purpose of the Legal Officer – Child Advocate is to:
• Perform the child advocacy functions as delegated by the Public Guardian for a child/young person in the child protection system in accordance with the Public Guardian Act 2014. The holders of this position will be appointed as a Child Advocate officer in accordance with the Public Guardian Act 2014; and
• Provide legal advice and assistance to the Manager, in relation to the discharge of the Public Guardian’s statutory function and exercise of their statutory powers particularly in relation to child advocacy.
Key responsibilities
- Perform child advocacy functions for children and young people in the child protection system in areas of law such as child protection, youth justice, education, human rights and administrative law.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with team members.
- Support other team members in the performance of their role and functions as required.
- Actively engage, build rapport and foster collaborative relationships with relevant internal/ external stakeholders.
- Ensure all work complies with data entry and reporting requirements and meets all other corporate and professional responsibilities.
