Eternus is now seeking a deeply experienced legal counsel to head up and lead our legal function, Right Law.
About the opportunity
As the very first piece of our professional services offering, Legal Services (or Right Law) has been a fundamental part of our DNA. It has scaled from a one-man band in 2020, to a 10-person (7 lawyer) full-service commercial legal team - and our founder's ambitions, and inevitable growth, has only just begun.
As Legal Services Director, you will serve as the primary legal advisor to Eternus' executive team: providing strategic guidance on legal matters, overseeing the legal department's operations, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws & regulations.
You will oversee the practice, leading a team of professionals, including two direct reports: Head of Financial Services (legal) and our Head of Disputes/Practice Manager. In addition to legal director & GC accountabilities, you'll also act as company secretary. Given the breadth of Eternus' business interests and operations, this is an interestingly diverse and challenging role. Aside from corporate governance and commercial contracting experience, we are particularly interested in hearing from candidates with experience in any (or all) of the following areas of practice:
- construction and major projects
- financial services
- property
Our ideal candidate will have:
- A law degree, admission as a solicitor in Queensland and an unrestricted practising certificate;
- A minimum of twelve (12) years' post admission experience in legal practice, ideally specialising in one or more of the above three areas;
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a legal department, overseeing a team of lawyers;
- Company secretarial experience preferred, with a strong understanding of corporate governance practices;
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex legal concepts in a clear, concise manner;
- The ability to work collaboratively & build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Strong people leadership skills, an emphasis on culture, with a proven track-record of developing legal teams.
