of the Library Assistant is to provide library and information services to students and staff across all year levels and to assist with the effective operation
of the library and its activities. Duties include:
- Provide support to the classroom teacher or teacher librarian, supervising small groups and individual students, on specific learning activities.
- Assist teacher librarian in preparing, implementing and supervising learning programs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, students and student’s family to improve student learning outcomes and provide support and advice on the teaching of students with diverse learning needs.
- Provide administrative support in managing circulation systems, general service desk duties, invoicing, book repairs and covering, and shelf returns.
- Coordinate parent volunteers and communicate with teachers and parents on borrowing requirements and overdue items.
- Create and maintain library displays to match current topics and themes.
- Maintain and edit the physical and digital catalogue including weeding, cataloguing new books and donations, correcting and editing existing entries to match current needs of the library.
- Assist with library events connected to themes such as book week and book fairs.
- Assist with photography for school events and assemblies.
- Collaborate with school staff such as teacher librarian, classroom teachers, learning support, school leadership and IT officers on sourcing, preparation of resources and other joint activities.
- Maintain a clean and tidy library environment.
