Our clients are an impressive, close-knit family that cohesively operates a successful Hereford Stud, Stockhorse Stud, Cropping program, and Feedlot near the town of Barraba in the New England region of NSW. They are now inviting a stock-focused individual who wants to be involved in all aspects of the feedlot, including record-keeping and animal husbandry tasks, to join the team.
The feedlot generally has approximately 1,000 head, the majority of which are progeny purchased from previous bull buyers. An additional 1,500 head are on various feed programs, including rations for sale bulls, backgrounded cattle, and others. This role will provide you with variety every day, from pen riding and mustering—utilising the sought-after stud’s horses—to inductions, exit procedures, drafting, and feeding out. At times, you will have the opportunity to be involved in the other facets of the business; however, your primary focus will be feedlot and associated elements.
You will require great attention to detail, strong communication and organisational skills, as well as solid record-keeping skills, as you will also be regularly involved in office and administrative feedlot-associated tasks. Regular interactions will also be had with the contracted vet and nutritionist.
The Offer
The young and social team will welcome you into the fold and assist with integrating into the local community. In addition to your attractive salary package, you will be provided with a newly renovated three-bedroom cottage, along with meat, fruit, and vegetable rations.
Just 10 kilometres from the country town of Barraba, you will have easy access to all essential supplies, including groceries, schooling, and health services, with the larger centre of Tamworth approximately one hour’s drive to the South.
The Ideal Candidate
A motivated stock-focused individual is sought for this role, ideally with previous experience; however, our clients are happy to train candidates with the right motivations. Applicants with the following attributes are encouraged to apply:
- Cattle husbandry experience (essential).
- Horsemanship skills (essential).
- Previous feedlot experience (preferable, not essential).
- Willingness to learn.
- Strong communication, organisational and record-keeping skills.
- Attention to detail.
If you feel that you’re the right fit for this position, please submit an up-to-date resume along with the contact details of 3 references.
