About the Role
Provide advice and support to City Safety & Compliance Department leadership team with regards to Local Laws and animal management compliance.
• Providing a customer focused service with timely, clear and prompt advice to the public on matters relating to animal management and Local Law compliance.
• Prepare briefs of evidence and where required represent Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal (VCAT) and in Magistrates Court to prosecute relevant matters.
• Undertake inspections, gather evidence and actively enforce compliance with the Domestic Animals Act, Council’s Local Law and relevant Acts as they relate to the protection of community safety, environment and responsible pet ownership & welfare.
Skills & Experience
• An understanding of the function of the position within its organisational context, including relevant policies, regulations and precedents and an understanding of the goals of the Department.
• A working knowledge of Council’s Pathway operating system and system modules relevant to the function of the position.
• Proficiency in the use of computers, hand-held electronic devices and other office equipment.
• Ability to represent Council at the Magistrates’ Court and other courts in relation to animal issues and offences.
• Knowledge of animal transportation procedures for injured, seized and trapped animals.
• Proficiency in the application of law enforcement procedures, including interviewing techniques, evidence collection, note-taking and preparation of court briefs and reports.
• Knowledge of the Acts and Regulations and Council’s General Local Law relevant to animal management.
