AddressAn irrigated turf farm on the banks of the Ord River at Kununurra has a position available for a Machinery Operator to join their farm team. The farm is in growth phase to meet increasing residential and commercial demand for turf in northern WA due to the expansion of local agriculture, tourism, and mining.
Reporting to the farm manager, your duties vary day-to-day with the demands of the season and include pre-starting and operating a variety of Ag machines to prepare soil, plant, spray, fertilise, mow, harvest, pack, and load turf for delivery. Additionally, you will carry out irrigation, mechanical and general farm maintenance to ensure safe and effective functioning of the farm, and record keeping.
To be successful you will need previous experience operating tractors with tillage implements and linkage sprayer, loader, forklift with turf machinery experience preferred. Basic mechanical, workshop and irrigation maintenance skills, a manual driver’s licence and your own vehicle are necessary, a manual HR licence is preferred. Current chemical accreditation, EWP and Forklift tickets are preferred, and the farm will assist you to acquire these. Suitably skilled applicants with good common sense and a sense of humour who enjoy working in a safe, practical team working environment are encouraged to apply and the position is open to workers seeking sponsorship.
The position pays a generous hourly rate, and trade qualified applicants will be paid trade rates when using their skills on farm. Air-conditioned ensuite accommodation is available a short drive away in Kununurra and the farmer will help you locate larger accommodation. Kununurra caters to your weekly shopping, healthcare, K-12 schooling, sports and recreation needs including a public swimming pool, offers a variety of other shops and a frequent jet service to Darwin. This position may be subject to random drug & alcohol testing.
