Refuge Victoria is a not-for-profit Specialist Family Violence Organisation that provides refuge accommodation to people escaping family violence. We have been responding to family violence and changing people’s stories for over 40 years. Refuge Victoria is the largest provider of refuge accommodation in Victoria with three core and cluster refuges, 15 refuge properties and nominating rights to approx. 35 Transitional Houses.
THE ROLE
A unique opportunity to use your trade skills to support vulnerable people within your community.
Join our team as a Maintenance Handyperson to manage the upkeep of our properties. You'll be the go-to person for hands-on maintenance tasks, property inspections and property improvement projects.
Your role involves a mix of practical maintenance work, property inspections, supplier relationships and coordination, and future planning. From carpentry to plumbing, electrical work to painting, your proficiency in various handyperson tasks will be key in tackling day-to-day challenges efficiently!
- Hands-on Maintenance and Repair Work: Perform a variety of handy tasks and troubleshoot maintenance issues.
- Property Inspections and Planning: Conduct regular inspections and develop maintenance plans using ticket systems for task management.
- Building Improvement Projects: Plan and execute projects, ensuring they meet objectives.
- Admin: Maintain clear communication channels with clients, contractors, and suppliers, providing regular updates on maintenance progress to both internal and external teams.

ABOUT YOU
- Trade qualification in plumbing/electric etc. or extensive experience in a handyperson role
- Proven track record completing maintenance projects
- Possess current Construction induction training (white card)
- Valid Victorian drivers’ license
- Adequate tools
- Strong knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and property maintenance standards
- Basic IT skills for communication and documentation
- Police and working with children checks are mandatory
