We are seeking a Maintenance Superintendent – Smelter to lead and develop the maintenance execution team. The ideal candidate will be a passionate people leader with a strong process safety focus who can continue to drive a successful and engaged team with a strong collaborative culture. As well as safety there is a focus on fostering a proactive maintenance culture underpinned by a reliability-centred maintenance mindset.

Reporting to the Manager – Maintenance, key accountabilities of this roles includes;

• Proactively improving the work environment to reduce health, safety and environmental risks;
• Supporting your team to improve safety culture through the continued implementation of the Safety Maturity Model and RTSPS
• Implementing and sustaining process safety standards for critical risks;
• Driving operational and technical excellence by mentoring and identifying development opportunities for team members;
• Ensuring team objectives/work schedules are maintained in line with production expectations;
• Optimising plant performance by leading a diverse team in continual improvement projects.
• Establishing and maintaining key routines and systems to produce quality products.Working closely with technical and operations stakeholders both on-site and within the wider business.

What you’ll bring 

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• An understanding of reliability-centred maintenance and its application in a maintenance execution team
• An understanding of the defect elimination process and how it applies to maintenance teams.
• Experience in aligning teams to work management processes
• Experience in managing safe and efficient shutdowns
• The successful applicant will ideally have a background in Mining/Smelting/Refiningor a similar heavy industry with complex processes and a strong quality assurance focus
• Excellent ability to interpret and challenge data/metrics
• Strong Project Management skills and ability to interface with a wide range of stakeholders

Where you will be working

Opened in 1982, Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20 kilometres south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum. 

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
