Project Overview
The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project is being delivered by Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) to provide a fleet of new intercity trains for operation on the New South Wales (NSW) electrified rail network. The rail-car fleet will comprise of 55 Long Units and 69 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast lines.
The NIF high-capacity, double-deck walk-through trains to be delivered by RailConnect NSW will be configured as four, six, eight (2x4) and ten car trains (4+6). The trains will offer passenger comfort and amenities suitable for longer journeys, such as comfortable seating, advanced communications technology and toilets.
RailConnect NSW is a consortium comprising Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC), UGL Rail Services Pty Ltd (UGL) and Mitsubishi Electric Australia Pty Ltd (MEA)
Role Overview
- Responsible for carrying out Corrective Maintenance and highly skilled repair work.
- Download, analyse and interpret Train Management System (TMS) train data logs for fault identification and rectification.
- Expected to be able to undertake rollingstock fault finding tasks based on knowledge of and experience with rollingstock and associated sub-systems.
- Implement Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and carry out Fleet inspections and associated rework.
- Ensure trains meet Minimum Operating Standards (MOS) to enable running on the network.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Work collaboratively with the other engineering disciplines to ensure all trains are delivered to the customer safely and on time.
- Work collaboratively with key stakeholders addressing technical issues/solutions and assist in managing the outcomes.
- Have the ability to fault find problems in a safe, logical and systematic manner.
- Record issues and defects which may arise, working with the team to ensure that all FRACAS / NCRs are captured, addressed and formally closed.
- Ensure compliance with all record keeping requirements and any other relevant policies and procedures
- Input quality data to HRC’s quality system and follow up on any engineering related quality issues.
- Identify and promote process improvements (eg checklists), eliminate waste where possible and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in site safety activities and safety promotion campaigns.
- Undertake any adhoc projects, initiatives, tasks as directed by the HRC Fleet Operations Manager.
- Duties including but not limited to: CM, Modification, Fleet Inspection, Prep support, Pre-PA open item closure.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum Certificate III qualified in a mechanical or electrical trade
- Minimum 2 years relevant experience post apprenticeship
- Working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environment legislation
- Continuous improvement mindset
- Strong communication skills (oral & written) including the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally
- Proficient skills in computers: MS Word, Excel, email
- Must be customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven.
- Technically competent with logical and practical analysis of complex situations
- Demonstrated ability to work independently
- Capacity to work within a fast-paced environment with multiple and competing demands
- Ability and willingness to adapt, quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by a rapidly changing working environment
