Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services (NCHS) are committed to delivering a range of holistic and culturally appropriate health services to the Indigenous population of the Fitzroy Valley, amongst whom traditional law, language and cultural practices remain strong. Located in the remote heart of the Kimberley region of Western Australia, 260km from Derby and 390km from Broome, we service 45 Indigenous communities scattered over an area of approximately 300km.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contribute to, promote and adhere to the philosophy of the Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services (NCHS);
- Work with the Health Promotion Team to assist NCHS in future planning and development of holistic male sexual health based activities in the Fitzroy Valley;
- Foster local capacity building through identifying, training and supervising potential community sexual health workers;
- Act in a manner which is responsive to the shared and individual cultural needs of people living in the Fitzroy Valley.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Plan, implement and evaluate men’s sexual health programs in the Fitzroy Valley in collaboration with the community;
- Participate in developing and delivering health education sessions around sexual health for males, including at schools;
- Work in partnership with the NCHS women’s sexual health officer, staff of the Fitzroy Valley Health Services, and Kimberley Population Health Unit to facilitate a coordinated approach to sexual Health Promotion in the Fitzroy Valley;
- Visit outlying Communities to support Aboriginal Health Workers, deliver education programs, or conduct needs assessments as required, with other members of the Fitzroy Valley Health Partnership;
- Lead an undertake comprehensive health checks on men in valley with partnerships that will include at times WACHS and KPHU.
- Participate in the development and testing of culturally appropriate resources and the delivery of health education material with other members of the Health Promotion Team and Environmental Health Team;
Desirable:
- Experience working in a cross cultural setting;
- Experience in rural and /or remote health sector.
- Experience in developing culturally appropriate and localised Health Promotion material;
- Current first aid certificate;
- Experience driving 4WD vehicles or completion of a 4WD course.
