Role Overview:
This is a role for an experienced Financial and Management Accountant who possesses a strong financial accounting background and is adept at understanding business operations to assist with financial planning, reporting, and analysis. The ideal candidate will be responsible for annual budgeting, forecasting, monthly reporting, financial analysis, financial accounting, compliance, and improving financial operations, systems, processes, and controls.
Responsibilities:
1. Annual Budgeting:
- Prepare templates, models, and outputs for management and business use.
- Facilitate the annual budget process, working with managers to create revenue and cost budgets.
- Develop budget balance sheet and cash flow forecasts.
2. Forecasting:
- Incorporate actuals into forecasts and collaborate with managers on any changes to budget or previous forecasts.
- Track forecast trajectory versus budget and intervene where necessary.
- Conduct medium-term balance sheet and cash flow forecasting tied to budget/forecast.
- Perform short-term liquidity forecasting.
3. Monthly Reporting:
- Generate monthly performance reports, including variance analysis against budget.
- Investigate budget variances and provide explanations.
- Prepare financial statements for internal use.
- Ensure coding is correct, accurate, and timely.
- Provide relevant financial information to managers.
4. Financial Analysis:
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis such as assessing the profitability of clients or services.
- Support key decisions with financial data and insights.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings or efficiency improvements.
- Conduct investment/project analysis as needed.
5. Financial Accounting and Compliance:
- Conduct monthly reconciliations and assist with month-end close processes.
- Streamline month-end close procedures to reduce time through process improvement.
- Prepare journal entries, including revenue and cost accruals.
- Manage and enhance accounting policies to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Provide information to external accountants, banks, and auditors as required.
6. Financial Operations, Systems, Processes & Controls:
- Support continuous improvement of financial systems and data.
- Enhance accounts receivable (billing/revenue) and accounts payable processes and controls.
- Identify opportunities to optimise financial operations through system and process improvements.
Requirements:
- CA qualified with at least 3 years of post-qualification experience.
- Demonstrated experience in both financial accounting and management accounting/FP&A.
- Strong background in systems and process improvement is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote work environment.
- Willingness to travel as required for business meetings and company events across Australia.
