The role
The Public Works Division includes specialist project managers, who are responsible for facilitating the delivery of high risk and/or high value projects on behalf of the Queensland Government. The team deliver on a diverse range of projects, including major sporting, entertainment, arts, heritage, cultural, health, government owned and leased accommodation, government employee housing, correctional and manufacturing facilities.
The Finance Building Services team provides high level professional advice and services on strategic financial issues, program and business unit financial management, oversee client budgets and produce monthly reports accompanied with variance analysis and forecasting to enable business managers to make informed financial decisions.
The position will predominately assist the Building Services Division within the Public Works Division mainly focussing on the department's government owned and leased accommodation. The position may be asked to assist other business areas within the Corporate Finance team. These other business areas are Building Policy and Major Projects.
Key responsibilities
- Undertake the development of timely and accurate monthly management reports and other financial information to monitor the financial performance for key stakeholders.
- Perform the monthly lease accounting compliance process. Including report generation, reviews, journal posting and undertaking investigation where errors are identified.
- Undertake analysis of budgetary and financial performance by completing variance analysis of budgetary and financial performance utilising data obtained from the iSPACE property system.
- Ensure compliance with relevant Government financial legislation and departmental policies and procedures in relation to financial reporting, budget and other corporate and operational issues and provide financial and business advice to management and staff on public sector, portfolio and departmental policies, practices and procedures.
- Contribute to the planning and development of the commercial accommodation budget including forecasting depreciation and financial modelling analysis while identifying the implications of emerging budget issues and contribute to the financial statements and annual Estimates Committee process.
- Contribute to the ongoing review and continuous improvement of systems, procedures, processes and refinement of analysis and reporting methods related to accounting, budgetary and associated financial functions, including compliance with lease accounting.
- Foster client engagement to ensure the ongoing understanding of financial processes and practices.
- Contribute to the maintenance and integrity of the SAP and iSPACE financial control environment, including complex reporting tools and other financial systems processes.
