About the role

Establishing a world-class national parks system is the cornerstone of biodiversity conservation. It helps to protect a diversity of habitats, threatened species and communities, Aboriginal cultural heritage and historic and geological heritage as well as minimise the effects of climate change on biodiversity.

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity to work as part of the team to implement an ongoing program of land acquisitions for reservation under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 to strategically expand the national parks system.

In this role, you will lead and manage a business unit to investigate new area proposals, give effect to land transfers and offsets, and negotiate purchases to support the achievement of NSW Government and Corporate outcomes.

Knowledge & Experience

• Extensive experience in leading the development and delivery of innovative, best practice conservation programs, with a particular focus on acquiring land and establishing a protected area network.
• Experience in developing, implementing and monitoring strategic and operational plans for large, complex high budget programs, with a focus on financial management.
• Demonstrated understanding of environmental, commercial, economic, community interests and issues relating to the management of protected areas
