As Manager Communications and Corporate Strategy, you will bring a strategic focus and oversee the execution of communications, engagement, corporate planning and Council support strategies and plans. You will lead a team of up to 25 employees across communications, community engagement, branding, government relations, media, Councillor support and Corporate Strategy.

Key to success in this role is your wealth of experience leading and supporting a highly experienced team of professionals within a large, complex organisation. You will have the ability to set and implement a clear strategic direction and drive continuous improvement whilst navigating and balancing conflicting needs and expectations of stakeholders. People will describe you as an energising and transformative leader, someone who is collaborative and team orientated, yet prepared to challenge and be flexible to shifting priorities. Motivated and innovative, you will be a future-facing thinker who enjoys challenging your own ideas and those of your colleagues, in a way that brings people with you.

Along with the full criteria within the Position Statement, the successful candidate will also have:

  • Tertiary and/or postgraduate qualifications in communications, marketing, business or a related discipline with extensive experience in a relevant field.
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted advisor with highly tuned political acumen providing communications advice to the elected Council, Executive and managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate and balance conflicting needs and expectations of stakeholders, a fluid government policy and priority environment, corporate and social responsibilities and resource constraints in a way that drives the best outcomes for the city.
  • Experience in developing effective strategic advocacy and community engagement campaigns.
