The Opportunity
Central Coast Council is the 6th largest local council in Australia, providing a variety of services to over 350,000 residents. Conveniently located just 1hr North of Sydney and 1hr South of Newcastle and the Hunter region, it stretches along the stunning NSW coastline and is surrounded by national parks, creating plenty of lifestyle options to enjoy.
This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity for the role of ‘Section Manager Communications, Engagement and Digital Marketing’, required to cover a 12mth career break, for their longstanding incumbent.
You will provide day-to-day leadership to a team of professionals responsible for the delivery of high-quality communications and customer engagement across the organisation. This will be achieved through the development and implementation of communication and engagement strategies, creation of innovative partnerships, community Engagement and provision of best value services. The section consists of 2 high performing Team Leader’s (direct reports), each with a team of around 8 staff. The sections is further supported by 2 external suppliers.
Key Accountabilities
- Lead and manage operations of Council’s Communications, Engagement and Digital Marketing teams
- Lead delivery of organisation outcomes through social media, Digital Marketing and website strategies
- Delivery of high quality, timely, accurate and relevant communication and promotion to Council’s internal and external customers
- Build and maintain strong and productive working relationships with media organisations and other key internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and development of communication activities
- Develop and implement engagement strategies for major Council projects
- Lead the cultural change of quality customer engagement across the organisation
- Optimise business outcomes through initiating and developing long-term goals and plans to guide the work of the team in line with organisational objectives
- Liaise with staff across the entire organisation to ensure the delivery of corporate KPI’s
- Provide a weekly communications summary to Director and CEO

About You
Ideally, you will meet the below criteria:
- Degree level qualification in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Engagement or relevant field.
- Proven success and experience in managing communications and/or customer engagement in a large organisation
- Ability to grow and develop a diverse, multi-site team focused on quality outcomes and a customer centric culture
- Experience in media management with national, metropolitan and local media in both broadcast and print media
- Experience in the provision of advice on issues management for an organisation with a high public profile
- Experience working in a politically sensitive environment
