Our Group Climate function supports achievement of our strategy through:
- identification and management of climate-related issues material to our business and our customers
- helping understand and shape our operating environment through engagement with civil society
- governance of the bank's relevant priorities, policies, and forums, and
- contributing to disclosures to stakeholders about the bank's progress on climate
The Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Analytics and Advisory team within the function helps develop and implement our social and environmental policies that guide our lending to large companies as well as supporting ANZ relationship managers with analysing our customers' ESG policies, with a focus on climate. The team focuses on how our customers manage their respective ESG programs, with a particular focus on Institutional (including Corporate) and Commercial banking.
Reporting into the Head of Head of ESG Analytics and Advisory, your main purpose as Manager ESG Analytics, is to improve and protect the value of ANZ's business and reputation by:
- helping to develop Group-wide ESG policies
- identifying and interpreting emerging social and environmental issues
- developing scope 3 lending emissions portfolio metrics for key sectors, and
- providing advice to senior management in this area.
The work undertaken in this role takes place against the background of increasingly high levels of social, government, investor, and customer scrutiny of the bank's ESG policies, particularly focused on our response to climate change and human rights-related issues.
What will your day look like?
- Providing SME advice on relevant social and environmental issues affecting our business lending decisions, such as public policy, regulation and emerging community standards and expectations.
- Developing scope 3 lending emissions metrics for key sectors, using tools such as PCAF.
- Supporting specialist ESG disclosures focused on climate change e.g. annual climate-related financial disclosures, ANZ's Climate Change Commitment.
- Conducting regular and ongoing environmental scans and analysis of emerging ESG issues, including through the reputation risk radar process.
- Supporting ANZ relationship and credit teams to conduct social and environmental due diligence on ANZ business customers for sensitive transactions, issues or sectors, including assessing customer transition plans.
- Assisting to develop and maintain ESG policies and supporting their implementation via associated tools and training.
- Advisory responsibilities to senior management on the above matters.

- Ability to analyse complex issues using spectrum advice/thinking and with a deep and broad perspective to understand wide ranging needs and interest of key stakeholders in supporting development of a multi-layered and Group-wide agenda.
- Ability to use spreadsheets or other data tools to analyse ANZ customer and emissions data to meet the team's requirements to develop carbon metrics for key lending portfolios.
- Able to map preferred actions or path forward from ambiguity or where there are not 'right' options.
- Strong relationship and networking skills to engage internal and external stakeholders in Group-wide agenda and results delivery and communication. Coupled with the ability to influence for desired outcomes.
- Excellent strategic communication and positioning skills to digest, connect and distil information, issues and initiatives into compelling propositions for internal and external stakeholders including ERBC and Board EESG committees.
- Expert understanding of ESG issues and relevant actors, their potential impact on and value to the business.
- Proactive thinker, able to anticipate and identify emerging trends which may become more important for the bank.
- Knowledge of relevant reporting frameworks for ESG and emerging methodologies for carbon metrics.
- Understand how politics plays into the organisation and shapes our customer responses.
- Excellent attention to detail, results focus with project management and problem solving skills.
- Experience with design of data governance controls.
- Tertiary qualification with expertise in policy areas affecting banking, business and financial services.
