The Art Collections team is responsible for the custody, care, development, and promotion of the Parliament House Art Collections. The Parliament House Art Collections are nationally significant and consist of more than 6,500 works spanning all genres of Australian art. The collections were created to be an essential element of the building's architectural fabric and working life reflecting the unique qualities of Australia. They include the Historic Memorials Collection, Parliament House Art/Craft Program (architectural commissions), Official Gifts Collection, Rotational Collection of contemporary art, and Archive Collection of supporting material.
The successful applicant will manage a range of projects and programs to deliver high quality collection control in support of broader collection care and access priorities. This role is responsible in managing and overseeing staff to:
- Undertake registration and collection management activities, including asset management and administration of collection tracking and documentation systems,
- Manage resources and associated procurement,
- Develop policy and procedures,
- Identify, respond, analyse, and report collection management issues,
- Manage storage facilities, and
- Provide expertise to support the broader access and development of collection information for internal and external stakeholders.
We're seeking an experienced professional with a strong track record of best-practice collection management and registration, supported by strong research and project management skills and demonstrated attention to detail. The successful candidate will bring significant knowledge of working with collections, excellent written communication skills across a range of contexts, and substantial experience delivering complex projects in a cultural institution context.
Tertiary qualifications in Collection Management, or a similar field; and relevant experience in collection management, registration within a gallery, museum or similar organisation will be well regarded. Previous experience using a variety of collection and data management systems such as Vernon Collection Management System (CMS) software and Fotoware Digital Asset Management Systems will also be highly regarded. The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected/Restricted) security clearance.
