Your Opportunity

As the Manager, WorldSkills Queensland you will be responsible for:

  • Manage the strategic planning, promotion and delivery of WorldSkills Queensland and other career pathway development initiatives, activities, programs and competitions throughout Queensland. 
  • Guide, support and lead the Worldskills Queensland team in the delivery of career pathway development initiatives, activities and programs.

This position reports to the Assistant Director, Educational Delivery.

This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.

The position will be based primarily at Acacia Ridge however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.  

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership to the WorldSkills Queensland team in the growth and delivery of programs and initiatives, including maintaining the network of volunteers, event and program planning, marketing activities, compliance with contractual and funding agreements, budget management, and the application of relevant legislation, policies and procedures. 

• Lead, manage and develop a high performing team, working collaboratively to influence the delivery of services and programs to ensure alignment to the strategic and business performance objectives of both the team and external stakeholders.

• Foster an organisational environment which focuses on developing individual and team capability and values excellence in client service, continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring that human resource management issues are addressed proactively in accordance with the appropriate procedures.

• Provide strategic advice to Region and TAFE Queensland Executive management in relation to the effective and efficient delivery of WorldSkills programs and initiatives, including the research and analysis of current and projected industry skill supply and demand data, the identification of staffing requirements and the design and implementation of targeted marketing strategies.

• Lead and manage contract negotiations with peak industry bodies, government departments, and other key internal and external stakeholders to secure funding and sponsorship for WorldSkills Queensland programs. 

• Identify opportunities for continuous improvement including refining and streamlining current initiatives, and developing and implementing new programs in order to improve participant outcomes, increase efficiencies, and reduce operating costs.

• Allocate tasks and projects to officers within the WorldSkills team, providing advice, guidance and clear direction and acting as an escalation point for the resolution of any identified strategic issues. 

• Manage the WorldSkills Queensland operational budget including active participation in budget planning cycles, the analysis of financial and business performance data, and the administration of funding agreements and contracts, ensuring compliance with government policies for procurement and expenditure.

• Establish, cultivate and maintain effective networks and collaborative partnerships throughout relevant industry groups, TAFE Queensland, other government departments, private organisations (including Registered Training Organisations – RTOs), and other applicable regulatory bodies.

• Represent the interests of WorldSkills Queensland and/or TAFE Queensland in forums, committees and working parties relevant to the delivery of Worldskills Queensland and other career pathway development programs and securing of funding contracts and sponsorship.

• Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative, and Safety First. 

How you will be assessed

Within the context of the role description above, the ideal applicant will be someone who has the following key capabilities:

1. Demonstrated experience in the strategic planning, promotion and delivery of initiatives, including knowledge of applicable legislation and the ability to provide high-level strategic and operational advice/information to a range of internal and external stakeholders.

2. Provides high-level and supportive leadership that rewards excellence, encourages creativity and innovation and maximises workforce capability within a challenging and changing environment.

3. Demonstrated high-level project management skills and experience including program leadership, allocation and management of resources, coordination and prioritisation of a broad range of activities, and the review and analysis of program outcomes. 

4. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate and influence others, and the capacity to establish networks and develop productive and collaborative relationships.

5. Displays flexibility and responsiveness and has the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment.  

Mandatory Requirements

  • Project management experience.

Highly Desirable Requirements

  • The applicant’s possession of a training, trade and/or industry-related background would be advantageous.
