With continual growth and diversification, we are currently seeking for a Marine Operations Support Tech to join our team in Dampier. 

This role reports to a slipway Supervisor and is responsible for delivery of production scope. 

The core responsibility of this role is to ensure all day to day & project tasks are completed safely, to the agreed quality and technical standards, through the management of tradespersons and other team members engaged on Birdon Marine projects at the Marine Slipway based in Dampier (and other locations as directed from time to time).

The Operations Support Tech - Marine takes a short to medium term view of the scoped works to be achieved.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Safety and Environment planning and execution for the project work. 
  • Support the Supervisor to conduct risk assessments prior to production work commencement in accordance with Birdon’s Safe Work Management System, documenting control measures in a task Risk assessment.
  • Briefing team members of the HSEQ actions and processes required to complete assigned tasks.
  • Complies with all safety processes.
  • Setting up the job site safely and maintaining housekeeping requirements 
  • Ensure safety records, Permits, SWMS and Take 5’s are completed 
  • Authorising Permits to Work
  • Training and development of apprentices 
  • Planning, co-ordination and execution of production trade resources. This includes 
  • Provide assistance when required for planning for materials, personnel and equipment resources
  • Ensure materials, tools and equipment are available to tradespersons to complete the task 
  • Reporting variances to scope, quality and schedule to the Slipway Supervisor
  • Role modelling of acceptable workplace behaviors' consistent with Birdon’s Code of Conduct and values.
  • Management of and when required reporting and escalation of poor workplace behaviours through Shipyard line Management.
  • Demonstration of skills such as compassion, active listening, simplifying complexity, clear and frequent communication, teamwork, influencing key stakeholders, motivating your team, responding constructively to feedback and solving problems.
  • Identifying the Quality standards to be met
  • Communicating the required standard of work, supporting the team to achieve the required standard, and measuring that standards are achieved. (ITP’s, WPS, WPQ)

Essential:

  • C0 Slewing Mobile crane ticket.
  • Forklift ticket.
  • Advanced rigging and scaffold license.
  • Coxswain Grade 2. 
  • Experience within the marine industry. 
  • Driver’s license
  • Service-oriented team player with a “make it happen safely” attitude
  • Computer Literate (Able to use Excel, Word, Deputy etc.)
  • Good written and verbal skills
  • Outstanding communication, leadership and people management skills

Desirable:

  • Other licenses for HRW, First Aid, trade qualifications and skills. Experience within the marine industry Construction White Card.
  • Comfortable working with all levels of internal and external stakeholders, including Military, Government and Commercial customers.
  • High level of computer literacy
