Marine Operations Officer - West Kimberley Oceanic Reefs and Islands

THIS POSITION IS BASED IN BROOME

Under the general direction of the Operations Manager:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of marine and island reserves for the delivery of conservation and parks and visitor services.

  • Responsible for coordinating the implementation of the marine works program for the Proposed West Kimberley Oceanic Reefs Marine Park, the Rowley Shoals Marine Park and Island Nature Reserves in accordance with the Management Plans.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should address the following five (5) criteria in a written application. These should be addressed in no more than four (4) pages in total.

  • Knowledge and experience in the operational implementation of works programs associated with marine conservation estate management or a closely related field, with a preference for someone with familiarity with the principles of planning in the marine environment and having knowledge of marine, coastal and island ecology.

  • Experience in budget preparation, control and expenditure of allocated work projects.

  • Evidence of well-developed interpersonal skills and experience in effective liaison with external organisations; including other government agencies, community, special interest groups and encouraging and managing public participation.

  • Experience, knowledge and skills in leadership, working effectively as part of a team and independently; showing a high level of self-motivation.

  • Ability and willingness to work with Traditional Owners to promote Aboriginal involvement in the workforce and participate in Joint Management Body and Native Title negotiations with a preference for someone with demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal people and having an awareness of their culture.

Note: The successful applicant will be required to possess or obtain a current (issue date not older than 6 months) and satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
