To meet the needs of our rapidly growing and successful business, we are currently looking for a Marine Research Equipment Technician in the Brisbane, Queensland office.
Project work is often related to environmental assessments for oil and gas for oil and gas activities and marine construction, including the growing field of renewable energy. The development of offshore windfarms in Australian waters is expected to comprise a significant proportion of work in the coming years. The successful applicant will be provided with opportunities to further broaden their expertise in a supportive environment which encourages initiative and collaboration.
You are required to work closely within the JASCO project and equipment team, participating in the organisation, testing, preparation, maintenance and operation of a variety of passive acoustic and oceanographic instrumentation systems and associated moorings. Additionally, for the right candidate, there is the option to participate in the deployment, recovery, operation and troubleshooting of acoustic systems and other oceanographic instrumentation at sea.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Technical System readiness support.
- Maintain, repair, and calibrate oceanographic equipment used for underwater surveillance and scientific data collection.
- Follow procedures for the testing of electronic boards, recorders, hydrophones, and other specialist monitoring equipment.
- Mobilise and pack equipment for monitoring programs.
- Oversee effective logistics including shipping documentation and organisation, monitoring, accepting and following up on deliveries.
- Demobilising monitoring equipment, including participating in the download and data quarantine process for returned equipment.
- Inventory management - maintain records for existing and new equipment.
- Use and maintain hand tools and portable power tools.
- Ensure adherence to quality and health & safety policies and procedures.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree or diploma in engineering (such as Diploma of Engineering – Technical), sciences, technology, or equivalent experience.
- Formal First Aid Training & Qualifications (Preferred).
- Forklift and Australian drivers licence
- Keen attention to detail.
- An understanding of warehouse operations and experience with hand and power tools.
- Technician experience with sensitive equipment, particularly that used in marine environments.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office.
- Team player attitude but with the resourcefulness and ability to work independently.
- Excellent communications and presentation skills, and an ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various team members at all levels of the business.

- Excellent planning, organisational and communication skills. This role will require someone who can work across multiple systems, locations, timeframes, and functions, and complete different tasks simultaneously.

Optional Experience:
- Experience in the deployment, recovery and mooring of oceanographic instrumentation.
- Sea-going experience, ideally in support of passive sonar operations, scientific research, offshore wind development, or offshore oil & gas exploration.
- Ability to perform physically and mentally demanding tasks at sea.
- Current Offshore Survival and Medical Certificates (Preferred).
- Able to obtain/maintain a Marine Medical Certificate (OGUK or Seafarer’s).
- Ability to travel domestically or internationally as required.
