Moonee Valley Racing Club (MVRC) is the historic home of 'Australia's Best Race', the Ladbrokes Cox Plate and plays host to the best night racing in Australasia with Ladbrokes Friday Night Lights. The Valley is considered Melbourne's most appealing spectator racecourse, offering an exciting, up-close and personal entertainment experience like no other.
The MVRC conducts and delivers all on course hospitality for up to 26 race meetings each season. The Club also stages over 350 non-raceday events each year.
Our hospitality portfolio also includes three gaming and entertainment venues: Legends, The Junction Club & The Leighoak.
In 2021, we unveiled TOTE Bar & Dining as a destination venue within the Moonee Valley Park precinct. Heritage-listed and built in 1938, the building been protected and restored with a sympathetic yet contemporary refurbishment to become TOTE Bar & Dining. TOTE Bar & Dining is a modern lunch and dinner destination extending to casual, private dining experiences and functions.
In 2018, the Club launched Dean & McPherson and partnered with PGA Tour in 2019 to deliver the world-renowned Presidents' Cup at Royal Melbourne Golf Club, and partners with Melbourne Royal as the hospitality partner of the Melbourne Showgrounds where we have delivered the 2022 and 2023 Melbourne Royal Show.
The Valley has commenced on a $2B redevelopment of its landmark 98-acre site which is situated in Moonee Ponds - just 6kms from the Melbourne CBD. In 2025, the Club will build the new Valley Racecourse, multi-purpose grandstand, and develop the racecourse infield with a wide range of community recreational facilities.
About the role
We are offering an opportunity to join the team part-time, three days per week in the role of Marketing & Communications Assistant until 31 October 2024 with the potential of extension. The Marketing & Communications Assistant is responsible for assisting with the coordination and delivery of key initiatives to drive traffic, engagement, communications and most critically commercial outcomes for the Racing Pillar, and the five pillars of MVRC's Hospitality Division:
- Gaming & Entertainment Venues
- Dean & McPherson
- Valley Events
- TOTE Bar & Dining
- Raceday Hospitality
The Marketing Assistant will play a key role in supporting the Marketing & Communications team in their delivery of business-wide activity.

- Provide marketing assistance across primarily the five pillars of MVRC's Hospitality Division, including assisting the Campaign Manager and Marketing Executive with campaign implementation.
- Provide communications assistance across both the Racing & Hospitality Pillar working closely with the Communications Executive.
- Provide social media support inclusive of content creation for MVRC's Hospitality venues, working closely with the relevant stakeholders of these venues and Marketing Executive to plan monthly and quarterly deliverables.
- Assist in developing and preparing sales-focused marketing plans and campaigns for our five Hospitality Pillars.
- Provide assistance with writing and editing briefs to MVRC's internal design team and external agency.
- Writing, editing and proofing copy for digital campaign, point of sale print material, MVRC's social media channels, eDM's, and websites.
- Assist in implementing, tracking, measuring, and post-campaign reporting of all Racing, Membership and Hospitality campaigns.
- Ensure that MVRC's brand is accurately represented and executed as per the brand guidelines in all internal and external executions
To effectively perform this role, the successful candidate must possess the following skills, experience and qualifications:
- Degree qualification in marketing or currently undertaking a Marketing related degree.
- Experience in planning and implementing marketing campaigns.
- Experience working with the Adobe Suite and Canva would be preferred but not mandatory
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to think creatively and innovatively.
- Passion and knowledge of the racing and/or hospitality industry is preferred but not mandatory.
