The role :
The Mechanical and Piping Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of civil, structural and geotechnical engineering in capital projects. This extends to ensuring project surveying is adequate for correct project execution. The position is responsible for adhering to site and international standards and specifications. They position is to carry out assigned work under the guidance of the Engineering Superintendent, following discipline plans, project schedules, budgets, design basis and engineering standards. They also undertake engineering activities such as detailed design, specification writing and checking of drawings on specific projects and review submissions from external consultants.
- Highlights to the Engineering Superintendent difficulties in complying with the above requirements.
- Brings to the notice of the Engineering Superintendent any changes in scope.
- Maintains an awareness of other disciplines and advises the Engineering Superintendent of coordination problems.
- Produces design calculations reports for submittal for verification and certification as required.
- Coordinates with disciplines to ensure timely verification of designs.
- Managing design sub-consultants (administration of subcontract purchasing is responsibility of the Project Manager).
- Stakeholder requirement specification (SRS).
- Participate in Project Morning Run meetings, 3 per weey, and ensure all discipline inputs are included where required.
- Participate in P&E Interface and P&E Construction meetings, held weekly, and ensure all discipline requirements are understood by all participants.
- Ensure all discipline Project Controls Dashboard inputs are entered in a timely manner Development and review of project charters and work scope s, complete with options.
- Design change management, including processing PCR’s.
- Assist with key equipment specifications and selection.
- Sign off at design completion for design handover.
- Assist with technical feasibility studies.
- Engineering, detailed design, specification writing, and checking of drawings at the different project gates for in-house works .
- Participate in deliverability/ constructability assessment and technical feasibility reviews (HAZARD Study #2, #3) .
- Run Safety in Design workshops and implement actions.
- Consider inputs and feedback from Construction Supplier .
- Consider inputs and feedback from Operations team.
- Ensures that design calculations and all engineering related correspondence are collected, indexed and properly filed.
- Engineering statutory compliance auditing and solution.
- Review of designs provided by the Engineering Suppliers.
- Engineering suppliers technical due diligence
- Facilitate design gates approvals.
- Quality management of engineering deliverables.
- Attendance to Contractor’s Safety in Design workshops, ensure records of same are saved.
- Establish uniform engineering and technical criteria, methods, processes and practices.
- Issue Construction Handover package to Construction Supplier
Qualifications (essential and desirable):
- Tertiary qualification in an Engineering.

Essential
- Required years of similar experience: 6-10.
- Mining relevant work experience essential and across all the mining lifecycle.
- Prior experience leading a team in a diverse cultural environment in a mining context is desirable.
- Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication and public speaking skills.
- Proven track record for the delivery of project objectives and established targets
- Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.

- Previous experience working in a remote location in a developing country is desirable
