Position Summary
As a Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of new Franna products and actively working to continuously improving the current product portfolio. This position will support a dynamic design team of Mechanical Engineers as part of the wider Franna Engineering team. You will be required to combine your theoretical skills with practical experience, to provide solutions to meet both internal and external customer requirements.
The role will require the applicant to be hands-on, supporting the execution of projects as needed.
This is a 6 month contract.
Responsibilities
- Conduct design and development of new products in accordance with the Terex New Product and Process Development process.
- Conduct the design and development of Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects, ensuring they meet project requirements, safety standards, and performance specifications.
- Ensure that all mechanical designs and products comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
- Utilize CAD software to create detailed design drawings and 3D models and assemblies.
- Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including drawings, specifications, bulletins and reports.
- Conduct the testing and validation of mechanical systems fitted to prototypes, ensuring they meet functional performance requirements and safety standards.
- Prepare projects status reports for senior team members / management as required.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with overall project goals.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as System Engineering, Integration, Test, Electrical and Software Engineering, to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with other components.
- Conduct failure investigations and root cause analysis
- Provide engineering support to the manufacturing and after-market service teams.
- Work with supply chain management to source and specify new components.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- Tertiary qualifications in Mechanical Engineering (or complementary degree).
- At least 2 - 5 years’ experience in a related industry.
- Proficiency in NX or similar CAD tools.
- Proficiency using MS Office.
- Good communication skills both written and verbal.
- Design knowledge of mechanical, structural, pneumatic, hydraulic systems.
- Exposure to heavy equipment.
- Positive attitude and strong focus on delivering results for customers.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams to achieve project outcomes.
Highly valued experience:
- Extended mechanical design knowledge of mobile equipment, cranes, Australian and International Standards, electrical control systems, pneumatic systems, and power transmission components.
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Design principles.
- Automotive design experience.
- Crane design experience.
- Knowledge of FMEA, APQP, PPAP, DVP&R processes.
- Ability to use FEA software.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing workshop environment.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations regarding plant design & verification.
