About the Client
Kestrel mine is located 40km north of Emerald in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, and is one of the world’s largest producing metallurgical coal mines. Kestrel mine has been in operation since 1992 and has an approved life of mine until 2033 and reserves to 2046 with the potential to increase further. Kestrel Coal Resources has operated the mine since 2018 and was awarded the Australian Mining Monthly (AMM) Mine of the Year in 2019.
About the Role
We are currently seeking applications for Mechanical Fitter apprentices at Kestrel mine commencing January 2025.
You will have the opportunity to enter a full-time apprenticeship and gain training and hands-on experience both on and off site to give you a head start in your career. You will be taught the latest industry skills by highly experienced supervisors and trades people at Kestrel Coal. Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will be qualified, experienced and walk away with a Nationally Accredited Qualification which will be recognised across all Industries.
During your apprenticeship you will be employed by WorkPac and work at Kestrel Mine where you will learn about the mechanical work on an underground mine site and receive all the benefits of full-time employment that WorkPac offer.
This apprenticeship is a training arrangement for a four-year duration. The training combines practical experience at work with complementary off-site-job training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
To be successfully considered for this role, you should have:
- Right to work in Australia.
- Currently reside in Emerald or be willing to relocate for these residential opportunities.
- Ability to work a Monday to Friday roster.
- An Interest in Mechanical work with a drive to learn and develop your skills in the classroom and on the tools.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be 16+ years of age. Applicants under the age of 18 will require consent from your parent or guardian.

- December 2024 - Onboarding Day
- January 2025 – Commence Apprenticeship
